Return and Report!

Well Detectives,

The time has come for you to wrap-up our Summer Reading Missions and prepare to "Return and Report" the things you have discovered in your challenge to "Read 4 or More" books this summer.

All completed Detective Kits (the book log and the challenge cards) need to be turned in to your "agency supervisor" (your classroom teacher) by August 24th.

And now, some exciting news...
The Get a Clue Detective Agency has received word that Agent Ima Reader and Agent Reed Morebooks will be dropping by to congratulate all of the new TVS Super Sleuths for a job well done!

Thank you for working so hard this summer to discover great books.
The Get a Clue Agency appreciates all of your hard work!

Mrs. Murphy
(Agent-in-Charge)

Good Golly, It's Almost August!

Hey Detectives -

Can you believe it's almost August and we will be going back to school soon? I can't! I still have so many books to read!

Even though going back to school is exciting, it can be scary sometimes too.

I read some great books where the characters had to face some situations that were scary for them or made them nervous. Check them out for yourselves and see how you would handle things.

Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of everything!

Each of the characters in these chapter books face some challenging situations.

A Guest Detective

This week we have a special reading guest... Ms. McNutt!

She was so excited about all the great reading our TVS Detectives have been doing, that she wanted to share what she has been reading.

I am glad that Ms. McNutt is working to "Crack the Case of Summer Reading!"

Here's what she says:

Oh my goodness, I have loved my summer reading!

I get butterflies in my stomach when I walk into Barnes and Noble, Lifeway, Borders (you name it, I've been there) to pick out my next book to read. I feel like a child in a candy store...my eyes get huge and I hardly know where to begin.

I recently made a trip to Half Price bookstore because I wanted to get as many books for my vacation at a good price. I chose my vacation spot this summer based on where I could sit on a patio, drink a delicious sweet iced tea, and lose myself in a great book. But after visiting Half Price Boosk, here was my challenge: I packed so many books for my trip that I had to pay extra to check my suitcase!

You would be proud of me, Mrs. Murphy, as I am reading a myriad of different genres. I have read a great mystery that kept me turning page after page without coming up for air. Historical fiction is a new genre for me and I have learned that I love being taken back in time. I have also read many, many, many books that Dr. Krahn has suggested in order to help me be a better teacher, principal, leader, and learner.

Summer is going way too fast! I don't know if I have enough days left to read all the books that are on my nightstand. Thank you for encouraging me to read, read, read. I am a smarter, more informed, much more relaxed person today after a summer of reading than when school ended in May.

Happy reading, Mrs. Murphy

Thank you for sharing your experience, Ms. McNutt. It's sounds like you are on your way to being a SUPER SLEUTH!

Why DID the Chicken Cross the Road?

Agent Ima Reader has sent us information about a great book she has found that might help answer the question: "why did the chicken cross the road."

Check out this book she has discovered and see if you can find the answer!

In this book, fourteen illustrators draw their answer to the question, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" The end of the book contains information about each artist.

This is a great book that has many "laugh-out-loud" moments for all readers.
